SBY 2016 Chicken & Tortoise Race

SGW Mixes Green and Fun at Spring in My Backyard Kids Workshop 2016

We are hoping that our our annual celebration of Newton Unplugged & Connected month brings Spring soon!

On March 10, approximately 100 kids (and older) joined Students for a Greener World in planting seedlings and plants in small square pots made from newspapers, making a bird feeder from pine cones, crafting spring-related artwork from recycled materials, and meeting animal friends: Tuxie the rabbit, Teddie the tortoise, two Berkshire blue rats and two lively chickens.  One of the highlights: the chicken races – with each other and the tortoise!

Always fun and educational, we thank our friends and co-sponsors: Green Newton, Newton Community Farm and the Newton Free Library.  Newton Unplugged and Connected is a citywide program coordinated by Gail Sommer, Community Support & Prevention Services Director at Family Access of Newton.
